So...what these guys are saying is we should all go out and buy these apps now before they're pulled.

I see this being a windfall for the people that make the apps. :D

Then after they're pulled. expect them to be a featured app on the jailbroken Cydia app store.

Isn't that the same thing as assigning priorities to processes in OS X? Terminal or Developer Tools already do that, as well as several freeware apps...I believe Multimedia wants something a bit simpler then that though.

Oh and explanation/links for those tools/freeware?

This doesn't look like an iPhone 3GS?

The Samsung has a flash too. Also, compared to the iPhone 4 the Samsung is ACTUALLY available in White.

Is this more about removing drunk drivers from the road-which it won't because of the tax revenue from beer sales, or is this about getting more money from people paying fines, from DUIs, speeding etc. Yes it's always about about money.

Seriously if you want to remove drunk drivers, prohibition(which I seriously doubt).

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

what, you think there won't be any for the next 3 years?

    I'm thinking of a 3-monitor gaming/sim setup. No desk - think cockpit.

iRacing with Bootcamp and x-plane should be amazing w/ this set-up ;-)

Oh, yeah, and FCP and Aperture of course... This will be for work.. honest!

I hope you're getting paid well to post this crap. Still, don't you feel dirty having to post references to obsolete "malware" like Leap-A and Inqtana-A that were never successful even before the OS was patched years ago?? And while no OS is completely secure, hence the need for software updates, those updates mean that AV software can at best be helpful for a few weeks, and that is very optimistic.

You need to face the fact that AV software adds no security benefit to the Mac OS. On the contrary, it can be used against the system because it needs to be trusted by the system. There simply is no point in spending time or money using a "security" product that makes your system less safe.

As for USB3 vs Lightpeak, your pitiful response makes me think you were one of the pinheads criticizing Apple for dropping floppy drives at the turn of the century. Sure, there are few Lightpeak drives at the moment, but so what? Lightpeak will be cheaper and much faster. When merely depends on how quickly it's adopted. If it were up to your logic we'd still be using parallel ports and scsi drives.

    Red?

I wonder if I have room in my iPod collection for such a device :D .

If this is true, I would be happy to see this come to life, not because of the color, but because of the charity aspect.

Ah, less money for 4" more screen, a ~20% faster C2D CPU, a much much faster GPU, etc? Thankyou mister Jobs! Can't wait to see what Tuesday's iPods will be like! Not that I intend to get one, or maybe I do? Who knows? And here's to some sort of Mac with Kentsfield and R600 (More likely G80 :( ) at Macworld or maybe even earlier with a bit of luck!

It's good to know that one can get a 24" screen, 2.33 Core 2 Duo goodness with the Geforce 7600 256Mb and 2 gig RAM from 5 grand with enough cash spare to buy a new Macbook. (Well at least in edu pricing)

BTW, this is a bit irrelevant, but can anyone explain to me how one gets Xgrid, and what one needs to make it work? ie. Does it cost money, or can it be downloaded from the net, and do u need a FiberChannel card to make it work? Would be cool to have a Macbook Xgridded to a 24" iMac. Preferrably Merom Macbook and Conroe iMac. But might take a while to get that :o

    Never mind. : (
Need 10.4 Server apparently, and at least 3 computers to make it worthwhile, it looks like.

Until Leopard is out we wont see the true value of these babies. Also by then some of the apps will take advantage of the muti-cores and multi-cpus, and the changes to the OS will allow applications not written for more than 1 core to take some advantage also. So like I said Leopard will be the one showing the true potential of these babies. Can't wait!!!!!!!

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.

Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?

The benchmarks on Tom's Hardware are up. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/09/10/four_cores_on_the_rampage/ An up to 100% performance increase over the Core 2 Duo. Goodness me.

I was surprised to see that it's the same form factor chunkywise (same pin setup as Core 2 Duo and compatible with those MBs) - I thought it would be thicker.

It has been only 19 months since they changed the look of the iMac.
In 10/20/09 the released the 21.5" and 27" models with aluminum backing, wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse.

I beg to differ, My iMac 7,1 looks like the new ones. I have had it for over 3 years.

Sometimes it helps to do a quick search. ;)

They do have surround sound support. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277#faq26)

Yes, they have surround sound, but not Dolby Digital. Quicktime can't even decode 5.1 audio (you need a third party plugin (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300) for that.)

Might we get a preview of this device?

You cannot CUT and paste in SL, only COPY and paste using the built in OS shortcuts.

I hate having to open two folders just to drag a file to MOVE it, so I had to pay $4 in the MAC App Store to get that functionality...

    Command-X is CUT !!!!!!

There may be lots of TV options out there, but right now Apple isn't servicing any of them. They're losing potential business to 3rd Party companies like Elgato. If they released a simple box with analog/digital standard/hidef options, they would be servicing the overwhelming majority of the market (most digital, satelite and other special services require set-top boxes anyway).I don't see anything wrong with letting Third Party developers pick up the slack where Apple is not delivering. EyeTV is a pretty good product for people who want PVR fundationality on their Macs. Sure, it'd be great if Apple did something innovative in this arena, but for a simple PVR, EyeTV does the job.
