Wow. Good news for Apple and the future of the iTS in getting more studios on board. :)
If Apple can just convince studios to release movies in 720p and 1080p formats, it would kill off the blu-ray / HD DVD rivalry once and for all.
GOOD! I think the HD DVD is out of control already. The future isn't in DVDs in my opinion, it's in digital formats. The iTV is just the first to prove it.
I am glad this movie thing is successful. I like the lower prices on new releases but I wish I could burn one copy to dvd so I can watch it anywhere.

I myself am not too excited by this...
An overpriced movie store doesn't seem like something i would ever use.
But whatever they have in their bag of tricks for streaming may prove to be worth taking a look at.

Is everyone forgetting about the "special" dock kit Apple sells with "yellow" and S-video as well as audio out jacks on it, and a nice little remote AND another charger and sync cable? With the old 320x240 shows, it was barely watchable, lots of artifacts and about like fair quality VCR tape. With the new 640 x 480, the output is VERY watchable, not quite as good as DVD but better than my DirecTV digital signal. And, this little bundle of usefulness costs $99 and is available NOW. I have used one since about Christmas of last year, and it works pretty well. You DON'T have to wait for the iTV or confine your viewing to the computer screen or an ipod.

Good luck with reporting my plates. I've done that to drunk drivers before, the 911 operator has told me "We're sorry sir, we cannot divert officers based on heresy." Also, see above: My uncle is the traffic court judge in the jurisdiction where I did this, good luck getting a ticket to stand.

What I want to know is whether the 27" will play nice with 1080p input from an HDMI adaptor. BD player/PS3 hooked up to a 27" iMac without need for an expensive upscaler would be nice.

My nano is already on eBay awaiting a nice metal clad 8GB version, I hope they do an andonised black one though to match my other gadgets.
nice....I'm sure it will be a good time to pick up an older generation on ebay...once they are released that is. This week is the sellers market however.

If this involves matte displays that don't look like they've been retrofitted, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us

For a desktop OS, sure.
Ivy Bridge will bring it up to 3 displays. AMD has 6 displays for embedded systems now.

I'm hoping for the MPB -still, since around June.
Something that has been mentioned a few times here and there that I would like clarifying. I will be purchasing (as part of a group order) an MPB this Saturday. When I go to the apple website, for glossy, it says 5-7 days. If I ordered the MBP, and somehow managed to hold onto it without tearing it open until the 25th, could I really send it in, unopened, for an updated MBP not questions asked?
Sorry, just wanted to clarify.

I personally could care less about this upgrade. I have have been more than satisfied with my ultimate 13" w/4g and 256 SSD. Handles all of my needs I.E. work/VMware/ all the other bells and whistles; and even have been doing my Xcode projects on it.
Seriously, I see no need or reason to want a faster more reliable machine for it's purpose; other than saying it's got an older chip inside. Maybe next year when many thunderbolt devices are in the wild, but again no biggie for me.
I may be in the minority, but for once I am very satisfied with this revision over my old Rev B.
To each his own I suppose.:)
My exact sentiments. Although a backlit keyboard would be momentarily tempting, I'll probably wait to upgrade my 13" macbook air until 2012.

why is the US so far behind Europe with this kind of technology?
(edit: maybe it isn't i haven't shopped for a phone in nearly a year)
It is. I believe this is because of the pricing. Europe is much cheaper when it comes to price-per-minute. My guess is the american companies tried to get as much money for as little functionality as possible from the get go (a simple American business tactic) and they are now catching up. There is more demand now so companies have no choice but to innovate and are unfortunately behind Europe. This is all just my guess.

Wonder how the 24" iMac at 2.33GHz will fare.
i don't know-- but i have a feeling it'll be really fast and a good seller. i'd go to the Apple Store down town and look at the 20" iMac and think "goodness... any bigger and it wouldn't fit on the table." now, for the same price as a 30'' ACD, you get a monitor that is just a little smaller than the 30" PLUS you get a really really good computer. if Apple does't sell a large ammount of these than something is wrong.

Wow, what a fail for Micro$oft, no no I mean MicroSoft (you don't get an $ in your name anymore).
Instead of making: $5,990,000,000.00
They only made: $5,230,000,000.00
What a bunch of losers. :\

Me neither. I wonder if the suspects were armed...or at least how smashing glass doors escalated into gunfire.
Moyank24,
If you go back and read more carefully you will see that there were three burglars against one guard and 40 shots were exchanged.
Three burglars shooting at one guard...I think that justifies the guard's action don't you?
Fortunately the guard was a better shot than the theives this time.

I love apple - will still buy apple but i got caught up in all the iphone banter. Im jsut sick of carrying half a dozen bricks in my pocket. I like that patent about the multifucntion device, thats when i will finally relent and buy an ipod. I do have a shuffle though.
I have a PDA with touchscreen, phone, bluetooth, wireless, IR, bigger than Ipod screen, full pocket PC capabilities, camera, motion camera, games. and the thing is SMALLER than an iPod. other people can do it, its time apple stepped up, the next step for iPods is phone capabilities, cause so many phones now can play music.
also id be pretty disapointed if i was looking at the new ipod nano range. the minis were ugly and it seems that cause of the problems with the nano screens that have gone back a year and said "well lets go with somethign easy"
on a good note, that new shuffle is awesome, really suits its purpose.

Don't worry, with Thunderbolt you essentially get an endless amount of options of ports. FireWire, USB 1-3, eSata, etc. It's only a matter of time until these adapters enter the market.
bingo
USB3=native to all platforms
TB=Mac Only
Sounds like TB just died.
unfortunately, also bingo.

I don't care anymore about speed of the processors. All of the newer generations are faster than what I need - the only upgrade that is worth it for me is going full SSD. I upgraded one older MacBook with an SSD and it's the best upgrade I ever did - worth more than any other upgrade, it is amazing who that old MacBook got from 'good too use' to 'feels insane fast'. Application startup time can't be measured anymore (some apps took >15sec before, now it's less than one second). From that experience, I would rather take a slower processore but the best SSD I can get.
I know, there are some use cases where the processor speed counts - but just for compiling code and running other apps, I don't care anymore. The big bottleneck these days is the harddrive.
Thanks for the advice but I think I will wait until I can get a 512GB hard drive for under 200.

Yeah, considering we get so many posts about "Will this RAM work?". It seems like the populous is clueless about DDR/DDR2 and FSB.
Exactly. Which is why the Ghz myth will stay for a long time. You can't market Memory or FSB or SATA or PCI-X/PCI-E, you won't get anywhere.
Ghz, GB, "X times faster", and you can play games that look very pretty. Those will be what computer marketing will be all about for many years to come.

OMG.. I'm with Felt. "Security Guards" shouldn't carry guns, and if they do there should be training and good sense that goes into using it. Shooting the suspects in the head is criminal.
Anybody responsible for guarding should have a gun. If the person isn't qualified to carry a gun, they he/she isn't qualified to guard anything and shouldn't be a guard.
When you're exchanging gunfire with a criminal, the main goal is not to wound; it is to remove the threat to your life completely. Let's say the guard shoots the guy in the arm, the guy's going to be so pumped up on adrenaline that he's not going to even know he's shot, giving him plenty of opportunity to take another shot.
Ask yourself this: If it were your life he was guarding, what would you want the guard to do?

I fall into the "who cares" category.
If someone wants to waste their time figuring out where I've been... have a ball! I might be concerned if I was a drug lord, or cereal murderer (Die! Captain Crunch, die!). :) But since I'm just a software guy... again, who cares?
P.S. Snap, Crackle and Pop... you're next!
