I don't like the sound of "off the shelf" parts. That sounds like Apple is going to rebrand an existing phone or place the guts of another company's phone in their casing.
I'm don't want a piece-of-@#$% Motorola handset inside a nice brushed steel Apple form. Which is who I imagine they would partner with.
If you're listening Apple, I'm interested in the iPhone. I buy my phones outright and I'm not interested in changing carriers (currently on T-Mobile). So you better sell it yourself and hardware unlocked.
I'll agree about the motorola thing! I've had my share of Moto handsets over the years and I've hated every single one. My primary complaint? underpowered and unresponsive. LAG! I would like it if they would just stick a Core Solo ULV in there and we'll be good! ;)
I'd love it to be unlocked too. But they'll probably make it GSM so i'll need to switch networks. Unless they're REALLY nice and make it GSM/CDMA like my Samsung A790 (about to be on my third of those- they have a knack for survival unless you hurl them onto concrete 5 feet below you as hard as you can throw them). I'd pay tons of money for that.

It *is* private now. This information isn't broadcast anywhere but your own personal computer in the form of an encrypted backup file. The information won't go anywhere but with you and your property.
However, if your iphone gets stolen, the GPS log is likely the least private thing you need to worry about. The thief will have access to your entire contact list, browsing history, etc..
Agree to that, but why is it being collected without permission?

Holiday season fast approaching...there's no way they will enter shopping season without a new iPod lineup. Period.
If they do, I'm dumping my stock.:p
And Appleinsider is sandbagging - hedging their bets that at least a portion of what they are reporting is true.
Well said iGary. I bought apple stock right before the iPod got hot. My friends are kicking themselves because they didn't buy apple.

But wasnt Yonah supposed to come out in January this year, and Apple released the iMac early January. So tens of thousands of chips must have been shipping before the official release date, I dont see why the same couldn't be true of these new chips.
Its a matter of availability. Intel supposedly just bumped the announce date to the same as Conroe later this month, but the availability is apparently unchangd from August.
However now that the chip 'exists' prior to WWDC, I would not think that Steve would hesitate to put it in ASAP.
So I think we may see the entire line get a revamp: mac mini gets faster chips (still Yonah), perhaps same with MB, though that may just get a price drop. MBPs/iMacs get new processors, and we get the new MPs.

Dude, it's a MacWorld convention, not an environmental love-in. GP needs to get their own convention. They were on private property - the conf organizers have the right to do what they want. Never mind their rights, huh?
As I said, fewer and fewer spaces where public debate can take place. Shopping malls are the same - 'public spaces' that aren't. Soon streets that have been public for years will start to be be privatised to provide 'better value for taxpayers' and the takeover will continue.
Then where can free debate take place? Some postage-stamp size bit of turf you call home?

Hey the Cingular deal is only six months exclusive, like the RAZR was. So you can all get it probably many more places afterwards and all of the bugs will be worked out by then.. I use Cingular and LOVE it due to the coverage in San Francisco which is difficult due to the seven hills. May other carriers I tried before including verizon and t mobile were much worse here.
Buy I have an 80GB iPod with 18,ooo songs so this thing will me useless to me. But it sure sounds cool!!

Steve Jobs described the Air as "All notebooks will be like this someday" and
"the future of the MacBook"
So SSD fully replacing HDD is probably what we'll see in the next refresh I think.
But a new update needs more than that. So I think Apple will also wait for Intel's Ivy Bridge.

Post #20 Page 1 Conroe cannot be dropped in to Yonah MB only merom. Not in MacBook nor MacBook Pros because they have no socket. You can only upgrade mini and iMac with Merom because only they both have compatible sockets.
Keep in mind that a 2.33GHz Merom costs almost as much as a new mini. But it will run way faster. Hope the mini's cooling system can handle the higher temperature. Good luck all you brave upgraders.

That is ridiculous. Even if Apple pulls the app, They are not going to disappear. There is always Cydia.
Yes, because everyone jailbreaks their phone. Even if the checkpoints are made publicly available by the police themselves, people usually wouldn't bother checking. An app makes that a great deal more convenient to check.
Typical, guilty until proven innocent, isn't that always the way.
How the hell is this anything like that? No one here is being accused of being drunk driver. Stop acting like a damn victim.
You should tell that to my son. Oh wait, you can't, he was murdered someone like you.
My deepest condolences, but I think (God I hope) he was joking.

I agree as it is the only common sense system, but the argument is negated by the patent. That was for a portable music device with Hierarchal menu display/navigation system, (HFS is a file system Apple has used and not used in Creative's players).
The courts could have said prior art, case dismissed or patent stands, Apple owes Creative $10 for every iPod sold since day 1. Apple didn't want to take any risks and settled. Good all round as far as I can see, even if I do agree it is a stupid patent award.
Oh, I agree that Apple did the sensible thing. But it just makes me angry that they should be in the situation in the first place.

My friend has that phone, it's amazing.
THESE SLIDER PHONES ARE A HUGE HIT RIGHT NOW!
Some of you may not like the slider style, but most consumers love it. And love the idea of a True music playing cell phone that can replace your iPod (nano at least)
I wouldn't say amazing, but I really like it. The interface is very inconsistent, however. I complain quite a bit about that - but then again, maybe I'm spoiled! :D

I'm a Green Peace supporter, but with Bush in the Whitehouse, don't they have bigger fish to fry?
It took almost 20 posts before GWB was mentioned. It seems the attention span of some folks is actually getting longer.
Now back on point, please.
The only reason GP is targeting Apple is because they think they actually have a shot at getting them to do something, and once Apple moves in response to GP, then they have ammo to go after the others.
GP is a dead movement - we need a fair, equitable organization to take its place.

The normal reaction... Counter lawsuit, however Samsung will have a hard time justifying it given it's "deep" knowledge of Apple products to which it provides displays...

Is it weird to have a special event in SF on the day the Paris Expo starts?
Perhaps is just being done in conjunction with the Paris expo. That's what I gathered anyway.

$100 million? Yikes.
And thats getting off easy. This amount of money is nothing compared to the profits Apple have made off using 'Creative's technology'. And it bodes well for Apple cos they can continue using it :)

It isn't VISTA. I plan on installing on my 2 yr old PB as soon as it is released.
And thank God that it isn't. It would be July of 2007 before it came out if Leopard was Vista.

I understand where you are coming from. With your feet planted in set in concrete, unable to fathom future developments based on the experimental or high-end tech of the day, the Blu-Ray seems endlessly of value. Much like the tape reels of the 60s.
The BluRay is going away for one very specific reason: mechanical. By 2016 the flash memory chips for 50gb will probably be so everyday and cheap that bulky, mechanical BluRay will seem awkward. By 2019 I'd bet you can store several times more than a BluRay on medium-priced thumb-drive.
Proof? Look back 6 years when a 1gb thumb-drive was a huge chunk of cash. Look back 10 years when a 512MB thumb-drive was almost prohibitive to buy. The future is non-mechanical.
You are also stuck in current times. Physical media will be dead by then, everything is going to be cloud based, there will be no such thing as a physical copy of movies any more :)

Not sure where you guys are getting your information.
In Virginia, to posses an Armed Security Guard license, you must take a 40-hour (five-day) course.
There's a place where I live that does the training. They use M4A1 rifles and M9 pistols in the course, which are both required for certification as an armed security guard.
