Hi prem_goel, I checked with two lawyers and they both said it is no problem al all to add my wife from F1 to I485 (AOS) when my PD becomes current.
The F1 will provide her legal stay in US and maitain her in status until my PD become current.
There is a lot of info on the internet about this, here is one link that looks relevant

From what you have mentioned, the answer to your question lies in the notice that USCIS has sent to your attorney....The letter should have exactly the steps needed and the time to respond....Your best bet is to request the attorney to send you a copy of the letter....
Personally, I think USCIS would request the empoyer to sign the check or re-issue a new one and send it within 30 days....it is not a big deal....

Is this true? If the employer agrees to not invoke I140 for next 180 days, I can start working for another company tomorrow without affecting my 485 application?
Wouldn't you need to show paystubs or something, for 180 days, for the company that filed your I485?

This is dicey. The rule of thumb is: GC is for future employment. Somehow you need to convince this immigration officer that you worked or want to work for employer who filed GC for you. Thats why they have this 180 days clause.

Can anyone give me the combination of numbers to dial to speak to an IO for the texas centre?I know its been passed around before but i just cant seem to find it .Thanks a lot in advance..Also do you think its any use me calling rite now,my PD is EB2 India..aug 2003..Applied in june.Is it too soon to try ...just itching to call once:)Thanks again for any help.

The CSR told that we tracked that this is your 2nd call in 10 days - Is the reason of this call same or different. If the reason is same - Pl dont make a 3rd call before 60 days from July 2nd :eek:
Doesn't it gives the real status - what more we want ??

Recently while returning, at the POE, I was told that AP is for emergency travel only and was asked the reason for travel. Also he wanted to see our tickets for the onward journey, to make sure that we were not gone for too long.

When you submit your passport for renewal, they usually give you a receipt with pickup date. This date is anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 weeks.
If you want you can request them to mail your new passport by paying extra $15 for mailing.
If you are going to pickup the passport by person, then you should be there between 4PM-5:15PM. Thats the delivery time.
In DC office you can not pickup anything before 2PM. Remember this

On the website they claim that they will process in 5 business days. I must have tried close to 5 different phone numbers multiples times for past week or so. I have also emailed and faxed my query multiple times. Same result - No response at all. I just don't get how work is done at the embassy.

I want to purchase an house in Washington DC/MD/VA. My office is close to Rockville. Please recommend the best place to buy an house based on the following criteria.
1> Very good school district
2> Low property tax
3> Very low crime rate
4> Rental value should be same as mortgage amount+insurance+PMI+property tax
5> Property values should be in 300K range max
6> Lot of Indians
9> Maximum distance to DC should not exceed 30 miles
10> Close to shopping places
Just out of curiosity....Are you a first time buyer or are you moving from some other place to DC area? Just thinking about the home buyer's credit for first timers...

SS tax has a cut off after a certain income level. The current SS is supporting the baby boomers and it is projected that in its current state by 2017 the current SS deductions will be less that the outflow. SS is marching towards a disaster.
PF is put in our own account, you get back what you put in along with interest. My company in india used to give a 100% deduction match, most s/w companies do the same. The amount that is put in PF will never go down as the interest rates are set by the government (inflation is a different story). IMO it is much better than social security.
There is no totalization agreement between US and India, its one of the reasons we will never see our SS contributions unless we work for 10 odd years or get that damn GC. This law is for employees from indian companies who used to come to work on short term projects.
Isn't this exactly what we have to go thru here in US by paying SS Tax?

We are seeking EB2 classification based on "five years of progressively responsible experience", i also have certifications in XYZ technology from last 3 to 4 years (not before starting work in XYZ technology) but i'm not sure if including these will help/complicate the case.. Could you please advise..Also, please give any additional points to take care while filing 140 with EB2 classification based on "five years of progressively responsible experience".

It takes 60 days from the RFE received date to make a decision on your AP. If dec 31st passes and if you don't hear anything from USCIS, you may need to call them.
If it is an emergency travel and cannot wait for their approval, you need to visit the local USCIS office with an appointment.
